As I’m sure many of you have heard, there is a new addition to the popular Batman movie series being released on October 1, 2021. Although we have a full year of waiting, it’s never too early to start getting excited.
This American superhero was created by DC Comics probably a lot longer ago than you would think. From the popular comic books published in the late 1930s and early 1940s to the release of Batman: The Movie in 1966, this iconic storyline has come a long way.
Along with the story’s history, this upcoming film’s cast is what seems to be getting everyone excited. Robert Pattinson, the beloved Twilight icon, will be playing Batman himself. And, from what I see in the action-packed trailer, he fits the dark and ominous role perfectly. The beautiful and talented Zoë Kravitz, daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, will also be starring as Catwoman. And, the infamous villains known as the “Riddler” and “Penguin,” will be played by Paul Dano and Colin Farrell (respectively.)
However, the cast had been several weeks into filming when the Coronavirus swept through parts of Europe in March of this year. This caused the film’s production, along with various others around the world, to be paused. After this temporary break, the crew was hit with yet another roadblock; The star himself, Robert Pattinson, had reportedly tested positive for the disease. Although he has since recovered and production has continued, it is unknown if the setback has majorly affected the film overall.
Matt Reeves, a popular American film producer, screenwriter, and director, is directing The Batman. He is well-known for his direction of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Let Me In, Cloverfield, and more. His violent, mysterious, and intense style is undoubtedly a perfect fit for the upcoming film.
This modernized Batman has been surrounded by various rumors about the plot, surprise characters, etc. from the start. However, what we can confirm is that the film will re-introduce several classic characters, dive into the sinister world of Gotham, and give the Batman we all know and love a darker twist.
