How To Elevate Your Business Casual Look

by Jennah Owda

It's internship season, which means it's time to start dressing professionally. I used to dread this season because I felt like I was unable to express myself while looking professional. But I realized it was time for me to add a little spice into the office with my trendy but still business casual look, thanks to the items listed below.

Oversized Blazers

The most important item to fulfill your fashionable business casual look is an oversized blazer. This staple item is my favorite because you can never go wrong with an oversized blazer. I love to pair this staple item with an off-white tucked-in button-up shirt and some well-fitted mom jeans. The best part about this item is you can add your own little touch to it; if you like bright colors, you can get a hot pink blazer, and if you like patterns, you can get a striped blazer.

Walking around in heels all day, especially in a big city, is not convenient. As a citizen of the windy city, I made it my mission to find a comfortable shoe that is fashionable yet professional. Loafers are not just great because Harry Styles wears them, but also because they are comfortable, easy to slip on, and trendy! No reason to torture your feet when there is a great alternative.

Pleated Pants

Pleated pants are my favorite form of trousers. It is known as the more traditional type of trouser, but in my book, it is the more fashionable one. The sewed folds, also known as pleats, add more definition compared to flat front pants. I love to pair these pants with a thick leather belt and a matching oversized blazer to achieve a monochrome professional look.

Accessorizing is key when achieving a trendy business casual look. A nice leather watch with a touch of gold is a great way to elevate your business casual look without looking too flashy. Minimalist necklaces have been trending all year and would be the perfect touch for your casual look. Along with minimalistic necklaces, satin scarves have also been trending. Tying a satin scarf around your neck or even on your purse handle is a great way to add a little fun and color into your look.
